I took my first class at The Lab in March 2012 and I was hooked from that first class. Classes at The Lab are never boring, are always different, and always give you something challenging to work on.
During my time at The Lab, my practice has improved in ways I did not even know were possible. I have seen physical improvements in my strength and flexibility and mental improvements in stress management skills and my ability to be present. Best of all The Lab has given me a community of like minded yoga practitioners and friends. The studio is truly a welcoming group of people who I look forward to seeing every time I go to class.

People practice yoga for different reasons, and I enjoy it for the physical challenge. It's probably safe to say that the variety of poses and sequences that students learn at The Lab is greater — more wide-ranging — than at any other yoga studio in Chicago.
I've been going to the studio since 2010, and I feel lucky to have stumbled upon it. There isn't another like it in the city. It isn't for everyone, and that's something students and teachers at The Lab freely admit. But on the flip side, there are probably plenty of people who, thinking they don't enjoy yoga, would change their minds about it if they practiced it the way The Lab does it.
Every class you try a peak pose. Every class you go upside-down (if you want). Every class you get some time to play around independently. The practice is as intense as you want it to be, but the tone of the class is always low-key — like a boot camp that traded its drill sergeant for an mild-mannered yoga instructor.
If there's a pose you want to get one day, The Lab instructors give you a way to work toward it. It's a fun challenge — a blend of strength, flexibility and balance that uses your body as a collection of levers to make shapes while you breathe peacefully through them.
